She Showed Up! (Northern Canada Evangelical Mission)

WHITEHORSE, YT – She showed up! There’s a lady in Pelly Crossing we have known for over 32 years. Whenever we had plans to do a group gathering or event while we lived in Pelly, she would say things like, “That’s just what I have been waiting for” or “I’m glad you’re doing that. I’ll be there.” Then she wouldn’t show up. She might call after the event and ask who was there but would never show up herself.

Then before our October monthly trip to Pelly Crossing to have a church service/Bible study, Janet called to invite her. “I’ll be there,” she said. Both of us thought, “I’ll believe her when I see her.” But she did actually show up! And she participated fully in the service. We went back to Pelly Crossing end of November and she came again, along with her sister, who came for the first time. Sometimes it’s nice to be proven wrong.

“I vowed I would never be back here again.” These words came from an inmate, heartbroken that he was back in jail only a year after being released. It wasn’t that his vow wasn’t sincere. It was just that he thought he could stay out on his own strength. He shared about how he disappointed his family, his community and himself.

Tony said to him, “Do you know the reason Jesus came to earth? To provide forgiveness for all the times we mess up. And I think that is exactly what you need right now.” And before the session was over, Tony lead him to faith in Jesus Christ.

“It’s so good to be working!” Brett’s health has greatly improved. He has gained and kept his weight at a much healthier place. He has more energy. And he was hired back at the company that he used to do deliveries and pick-ups for. Now he does administrative work. As a bonus, he was given a raise compared to his previous wage. Thank-you, Lord!

This fourth GriefShare season started with four participants, with a fifth joining about halfway through. The losses are varied: spouse, parent, sibling, dear friend. Participants come from 5 different churches, and they have come to really appreciate each other.

Something that is gaining traction is GriefShare social events. It’s a time of sharing a meal or snacks, visiting and/or playing games. Some participants isolated themselves to a small or large degree after their loved one passed. These GriefShare socials have been a gentle way to meet with people again and do so with others who understand the pain of losing a loved one.

Looking ahead….

In October we had a Zoom meeting with our pastor, a pastor from Barrie ON, and another pastor from Montreal QC. The three churches want to work together to bring about an exciting children’s Adventure and Bible Camp in Pelly Crossing June 30 to July 4, 2025. In addition, a specific youth outreach is being planned for two of the evenings.

Thank you for your many prayers for us and our ministry!

As God gave and sent his Son Jesus, we thank you for your faithful giving and sending us to the Yukon to share the hope of eternal life through Jesus.

Praise God for:

  • Two new ladies at Pelly services.

  • Brett’s renewed health and work.

  • His healing of hearts through GriefShare.

  • God’s Word and Spirit touching lives at Whitehorse Correctional Centre (WCC).

  • The Council Fire booklets getting approval for WCC inmates. Similar to Our Daily Bread, they are written by First Nation believers.

Please pray for:

  • Brett to have continued strength, health and wisdom in learning new responsibilities at work.

  • Continued guidance and good working together in planning the Pelly Crossing Adventure Camp 2025.

  • Heart preparation of those the Lord would have in the next GriefShare groups. That we as facilitators would rely on the Lord’s strength and directing.
