Committed Volunteers Make a Difference | Hepburn Gospel Church, SK (R2)

Over the last year and a half, our youth ministry here at Hepburn Gospel has grown. The number of students who come out on a weekly basis has stayed fairly consistent, but our volunteer leadership team has doubled in numbers.

The rise in volunteers can be attributed to the exceptional attitude of both the church leadership and its members. They are committed to encouraging young adults to serve in the church, recognizing the immense value in the personal growth and learning that takes place through such involvement. This supportive culture has been a characteristic of Hepburn Gospel Church long before my involvement.

Our entire youth leadership team is fairly young. At the moment, we range from 18-26 years old. Each of the leaders has an obvious, genuine desire to support and disciple the students in the community.

The students attend regularly, confident that the leaders are there for them—not for volunteer experience or to enhance their resumes, but to disciple and genuinely care for them. Teenagers can easily sense when something isn't authentic. Genuine care is something many youths today deeply crave.

There is also a great hunger for truth in young folks today. We meet this need the best way we can. We teach the Bible. The infallible Word of God. Every time we do a lesson, I remind the students that scripture has authority over all of us. No matter what position or office one may hold. It teaches the Truth, and reveals to us the abundant life which is offered through Jesus Christ.

We take the responsibility of bringing scripture into the lives of our students very seriously. We aim to be faithful in sharing the Word accurately, to the best of our still developing abilities and understandings. The core hope of our ministry is this: To bring the Gospel to youth who don’t know the love and life that Jesus offers, and to help those who do, deepen their relationship and faith in Him.

None of this would be possible if not for the existing culture at Hepburn Gospel Church. When there are difficulties or mistakes made within the youth ministry team, the church leadership is quick to respond with encouragement and gentle correction.

We have a wonderful and supportive community around us who want to see us succeed in what we do. United in the goal of discipleship, and extending the Kingdom of God. In my mind, that has been the best thing possible for the youth ministry here.
